José R. Laureano, Esq. is a founding member of North South Law Group and leads the firm’s South Florida / Puerto Rico office. His practice focuses on helping individuals, families, and business owners navigate estate planning, probate, real estate closings and small business transactional matters with clarity and confidence. His work includes wills, trusts, advance directives, probate administration, small business formation, real estate closings, and title insurance. He also has extensive experience educating individuals, families, and business owners on estate planning and small business formation, and he regularly delivers presentations and seminars on these topics.
Mr. Laureano also advises and assists law firms, corporate and governmental management, and individual clients on internal corporate investigations and government investigations — including matters before the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) and HUD-OIG. He also provides expert consulting assistance to defense attorneys representing clients in white collar criminal cases. Decades of experience and hundreds of cases in the field have given him a rare asset to offer clients: firsthand knowledge of how government investigations are initiated and conducted, matched with the judgment of a lawyer.
Before founding the firm, Mr. Laureano served as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice, attorney and federal investigator with the Office of Counsel of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Office of Inspector General (HUD-OIG), and a federal investigator with HUD-OIG, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. In these roles, he handled complex fraud investigations, financial crimes, and regulatory enforcement matters.
He earned his Juris Doctor from The George Washington University Law School and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus. He is licensed to practice law in Florida and Puerto Rico, as well as before multiple federal courts.
Mr. Laureano is fluent in English and Spanish.
